At the Shore

2026

When a place is left behind, what remains is rarely an exact picture. It is a temperature, a color of light, the sound of water, the weight of an afternoon. These paintings begin there, with the impression a place leaves once the place itself is gone.

At the Shore takes the shoreline as its central figure: the edge between land and water, between here and there, between remembering and forgetting. The paintings imagine rivers of memory, roads to the sea and gardens at nightfall, spaces that feel familiar without belonging to any map. Built stroke by stroke from small pulses of light, they break apart up close and gather into a whole from a distance, the way memory does.

The series grows out of two earlier paintings, Seis Lunas and The House
of God (2022), where its first ideas took shape.

Everybody’s Free (To Wear Sunscreen)

2024

Ten paintings about the emotional weather of emigrating: the vertigo of leaving one world behind and learning to live in another. Here the landscape dissolves into gesture. Paint is layered, scraped and buried, so that each canvas holds both the chaos and the beauty of starting over.

Every work takes its title from a song tied to a memory, from Wish You Were Here to Love Me Do, so that music becomes a bridge between past and present. Color does the remembering that images cannot.
